Kindergarten Program
Ages 5 to 6 years old

Our Spanish immersion arts-integrated kindergarten program focuses on the skills and concepts necessary for children to enter first grade on day one, confident, prepared, ready to learn, and succeed in Spanish & English.

At La Casita Day School, children are immersed in the Spanish language naturally through an arts-integrated curriculum. We use the "Affective Filter" approach developed by Stephen Krashen (a linguistics expert) to create an environment of high learning when anxiety is low. This allows children to learn Spanish and kinder concepts in a fun and supportive way.

We instill a sense of appreciation for different cultures through traditional music, dance, art projects, stories, and class discussion.

Students learn letter and number concepts and oral language development through age-appropriate activities arranged each week thematically - storytelling, music, and movement help to further advance essential literacy skills.

We use the award-winning curriculum, Get Set For School by Learning Without Tears, which prepares students for first grade with hands-on, developmentally appropriate writing, early literacy, and math strategies.

Children learn to rhyme, an important skill toward phonemic awareness and essential pre-reading skills. As they rhyme, they listen to the sounds within words and identify word parts. Rhyming requires that children listen closely to sounds within words and learn words consist of separate parts.

Dramatic play and puppetry help develop language, communication, and social interaction skills and help children recognize what is real and what is fantasy.

We also use Etrellita's Accelerated Beginning Spanish Reading Program based on scientific learning and reading principles. It provides multisensory instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency.

La Casita Day School's Arts Integrated Curriculum teaches children through the arts and with the arts. It is the medium for learning in our school by connecting art to the concepts children learn.

We are proud to have a fun and safe space for kids to play and learn. For that to happen we have a special recipe for success. Please contact us if you have any questions about the list below.

1.

A minimum of 5 years of age by the start date is required.

2.

All children must be vaccinated unless there is a medical exemption.

3.

Parents must fill out the required California State forms.

4.

All children are assessed. The student assessment is an opportunity for us to get to know your child and make sure the school is a good fit for them. The assessment is scheduled when the application, state forms, and vaccination records are received.

5.

Children must be potty trained. For a drama-free potty training experience, we recommend this book

6.

When a student is approved for the program a non-refundable deposit and non-refundable registration fee secures their spot.

I can't believe this is our 4th (!!!) and final graduation with you. Your friendship and guidance over the last few years have meant the world to me. Thank you for taking such great care of all of us.

Love, Nicki & the boys
